"What stories are within you? A personal narrative is a story from your life. So, it is simple to write. Maybe. If you come up with an experience you’re dying to share–it is easy to get started. But, it isn’t always easy to think of an idea for a personal narrative. " (Suzanne Davis, 2019)
Remember, you don't have to be a professional storyteller to record an audio diary, nor does the story that you choose to tell have to be a long one! Just relax. Press record. & Let it flow.
We all have stories to tell...many have shaped who we've become. Those are the stories that we want to hear. We are interested in humorous experiences, shared sadness, as well as, exciting achievements of all women! Before recording your story, however, consider why it's important to you. We are hoping that someone hears this who needs to know that they aren't alone in their pain, embarrassment, or happiness. We want women's experiences to matter.
We tend not to tell everything that has affected us or that which is affecting us now. Sometimes it's too painful. Other times it's simply a matter of perceived insignificance. We want to hear your stories because someone listening will learn that they are not alone and thus find a community within this storytelling platform. But, don't hold back...don't conveniently leave out details because they are too hard to say out loud or because they are too embarrassing.
Life is meant to be experienced...good or bad. We learn from the varied perspectives of different women and their social experiences. So, how did this particular experience change you? What did you realize about yourself (or about other people) in the process? These outcomes are what we consider to be transformational. Know that just telling the story is transformational to many women and is just as important in teaching our little girls.
Technology affords us the opportunity to produce quality recordings just by using our cell phones! Use the "voice memo" app on your phone (or a comparable app) to record your story. If you feel comfortable enough, try a video recording. We'd love to post your video on our website! The idea is to be sure that you are speaking clearly into the microphone. Don't worry about major edits. Our engineers will clean up your audio file after it is submitted.
Please submit all recorded audio and/or video files to: producer@genderpitch.com
